renowned house veterans d’julz and jordan fields drop two tracks each for a split release on radio slave’s rekids this december. one of the key components in parisian electronic music, the a side sees a display of groove led cuts signature to d’julz as ‘shy town’ combines sultry bass tones with mesmerizing atmospherics and tranquil piano chords, making way for the crunchy drums and trippy synths of ‘in your soul’. meanwhile, from across the pond in chicago, jordan fields’ raw productions begin with syncopated percussion and fuzzy notes until ‘mformation’ concludes the package with thudding kicks and ethereal melodies. both artists have been commanding forces in electronic music for 25 years each making this split release very special indeed.

serbian label disco fruit continues its successful of 12inches right up to the end of 2016 with another slice of feel-good party business from label boss tonbe. i m the one-is a bright and breezy slice of funky house lashed with diva vocal turns that tap into the same vein as futureboogie and other such esteemed labels. alkalino meanwhile simmers the track down to a lean club-ready jam before feel the night on the flip heads straight to the philly strings for its own clean and punchy reverie. dig it rounds the ep off with a slightly slower groove peppered with yet more classic disco signifiers.

transmitting out of birmingham and representing the cream of the sleek tech house crop, adam shelton s one records continues to forge valuable connections with the global scene while staying true to the label s roots. shaun reeves and tuccillo have been doing their thing for long enough to know how to throw down a surefooted deep groover, and that s just what you get with -smile-. meanwhile the mole does a sterling job of working some complex percussion into the bones of the track and creating a hypnotic, understated version that will appeal to the freakier end of the floor.

following on from david morales appearance on the label earlier this year, rekids tap up shed and ryan elliott for a pair of percussive reimaginations. well known for remixes of the thompson twins, shawn christopher, clive griffin and the pet shop boys, morales red zone moniker was conceived during the def mix legends formative years at the renowned club sharing the same name. 50 weapons and monkeytowns shed adopts his head high alter ego for a remix that draws the originals vocals into the spotlight before planting thunderous kick drums beneath whilst dusty pads operate above. meanwhile, ostgut ton affiliate ryan elliott crafts a reimagination that incorporates breaky percussion, a rumbling low end and sweeping astral synths.

with jealous god, eerie and l.i.e.s on his c.v. they don t come much more approved that domenico crisci, but few would be prepared for the onslaught that leaps out of this first release on summa cum laude. the violinist champions distortion as a weapon, running everything through a fuzz pedal in a most unrelenting of fashions. its certainly not for the feint-hearted, and all the more powerful with it. meanwhile return would sound brutal in any other context were it not for what came before, all slamming, grubby drums and the noises that splay off them. blacklord them manages to push the vibe further back into the red with a searing throwdown to finish the ep off in a masterful display of intensity.

the man behind the track that move d proclaimed -owned the dome at freerotation- , returns with 3 new tracks of deep machine grooves, his first release since 2013 s analogue mapping. -frey d- is built around a synth patch stumbled upon whilst conducting a test on one of bovill s machines with rennouned synth engineer frey smith. opening with playful ,bubbling analogue tones and nostelgic pads, before characteristic basslines, percussion and 303 lines join in, ending on a spaced out contemplative groove . - l.a.t. - is a more stripped down track, which ebbs and flows around subtle builds, tweeks, and delays, perfect for the deeper late night dancefloor. closing the ep is golden burn, the deepest and most dubbed out of the 3 tracks, sprinkled with emotive keys, and underpinned by distinctive bass lines.

one of house musics true originators, todd terry was first discovered by pioneering new york house imprint fourth floor records. now the label has collected four of his earliest and most essential productions on to one 12inch vinyl. the a-side houses a pair of tracks created under his black riot alias in 1988, both featuring his trademark raw, jacking drums. the unmistakable rave stabs on a day in the life were to reappear on countless hardcore records, testament to the tracks influence, whilst the cut-and-paste sample patchwork of warlock defines the house sound of that era. meanwhile, the b-side features two tracks as masters at work, a moniker that todd would later pass on to his friends little louie vega and kenny dope gonzalez. both alright alright and dum dum cry, originally released in 1987, exhibit terrys musical roots, combining hip-hop breakbeats, powerful electro-funk and playful freestyle melodies in his inimitable style.

new york house legend david morales arrives on radio slave’s rekids for a vinyl only release. homage to his formative years at the influential club of the same name, morales’ red zone project is the moniker which the def mix veteran produced many of his seminal remixes under, from the thompson twins to shawn christopher, clive griffin to overweight pooch and propaganda to the pet shop boys. rekindling the pseudonym for a vinyl only appearance on matt edwards’ renowned imprint, the release initiates with a robust dancefloor workout titled ‘don’t go’ that’s laced with heady melodies and energetic hats. meanwhile, ‘tribal funk’ is a more rhythmic cut featuring thudding drums, deep chords and compelling vocal samples.

in 1985 severed heads were asked to release a retrospective, so they dragged out bits lying around. the compilation was titled “clifford darling please don’t live in the past”, spread out into a montage over four sides of vinyl. this compilation includes live recordings, raw demos, unreleased studio recordings and solo pieces from each member of the band during from the first five years. the results are a striking hybrid of the avant-garde industrial and pop.
